Assembly
Malala’s activism began at age 11 when she blogged about her experience living under the Taliban for the BBC. This served as inspiration for Assembly, a digital publication and newsletter run by girls from all over the world, so they too could have a place to share their stories, just like Malala.
Assembly is a sister brand to Malala Fund, a way to capture Gen Z’s enthusiasm for speaking their mind and staying informed on global issues. It’s an active blog that gives girls a platform for their campaigns and helps them reach like-minded peers.
The multi-lingual publication has won two Webby Awards.
Assembly Print Edition
To reach potential readers without regular internet access, we produced an annual print edition beginning in 2019 with some of our favorite stories from the previous year. The issues were printed and distributed to Malala Fund grantee publications. Stories were published in both English and the author’s native language.
Website redesign
We rebuilt the site on a custom Squarespace CMS to better feature content, dynamic sections, link to old editions and increase subscriptions. The site also allows for multiple languages.
In September 2021,
we created an
Instagram account
just for Assembly content to further target the high school- and college-age demographic.
I created graphics to encourage
writers and readers to share
stories on their own Instagram accounts.
